Your Tromsø Guide

Northern Light Chase With Professional Photographer

Join an exciting Northern Light chase in a comfortable minivan (max 8 people). Discover its secrets, and warm up by a campfire in the Arctic wilderness!

To truly admire the Northern Lights, we need to leave the light pollution of Tromsø behind and immerse ourselves in the Arctic wilderness. The direction we’ll take will depend on the weather that evening: clouds can hide the Aurora, so our top priority will be to find a clear sky. When necessary, we might even cross the border into Finland!

Once we find the perfect spot, we’ll choose an intimate location, far from other tours and artificial lights. Waiting is part of the experience: the Aurora might appear after a few minutes… or after a couple of hours.

To make the wait more enjoyable, we’ll light a campfire, enjoy snacks and hot chocolate, and I’ll share with you all the secrets of this natural wonder.

Winter temperatures can range from +5°C to -30°C, so I’ll provide thermal suits for all participants. If you have a camera, I’ll teach you how to set it up to best capture the Aurora. I’ll also take professional photos of you myself, so you’ll have an unforgettable memory of this magical night.

It’s important to remember that nature is unpredictable: occasionally, the sky may remain cloudy, or solar activity may be low. However, even on the most uncertain evenings, just a 20-minute break in the clouds can offer a breathtaking show.

Thanks to my knowledge of local weather and the use of advanced tools, we’ll maximize our chances of being in the right place at the right time.

The tour’s duration will depend on how long it takes to find the ideal conditions. Sometimes, a 30-minute drive from Tromsø is enough. Other times, it’ll be a true Northern Lights hunt, exploring a wider area in search of starry skies.

Whatever the night holds, I promise you an unforgettable adventure!

Important info

  • Bring your passport in case it is necessary to cross the border with Finland.
  • Minimum age: 14 years. Arctic nights can be intense, and the presence of children may affect the comfort of both the family and the group.
  • Although I will provide thermal suits suitable for Arctic temperatures, I strongly recommend already having good winter clothing. See my article How to Dress in the Arctic
  • To ensure a comfortable environment for all participants, smoking is not permitted at any time during the tour, not even during breaks outside the vehicle. Even a quick cigarette outdoors can cling to jackets and gloves, and in a small space like a minivan this may cause significant discomfort to other guests.
